The Heated Pool

Our heated pool is more than a place to swim — it is the centerpiece of the Magnolia Reserve wellness experience. Set within lush tropical gardens and open to the warm Caribbean sky, the pool is designed for daily enjoyment and therapeutic movement at every level of ability.

Guided aquatic exercise sessions are held regularly, led by a trained instructor from poolside. Independent swimming is available throughout the day. Poolside loungers, shade umbrellas, and tropical plantings create an atmosphere that feels more like a private resort than a care setting — because at Magnolia Reserve, that is exactly the point.

Natural Wonder

Cahuita National Park

Just minutes from Magnolia Reserve, Cahuita National Park is one of Costa Rica's most beloved coastal reserves. Stretching along the Caribbean shore, it shelters one of the country's finest living coral reefs — home to hundreds of tropical fish, lobsters, and marine life visible right from the surface.

On land, jungle trails wind beneath towering trees where howler and white-faced capuchin monkeys call out overhead, sloths cling to branches, and bright-billed toucans flash through the canopy. Admission is by voluntary contribution, and the beaches here are among the most tranquil on the Caribbean coast.

The Caribbean Beach

The beaches of Puerto Viejo — Playa Negra, Playa Cocles, and Playa Chiquita — are warm, vibrant, and alive with people of all ages enjoying the water, sunbathing, and the easy rhythms of Caribbean life. You'll find seniors, families, and local visitors sharing the shore in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

For residents of Magnolia Reserve, the beach is not a destination — it is part of daily life. We organize weekly group beach visits for all interested residents, and the warm Caribbean Sea is close by for independent visits any day of the week. Morning strolls, afternoon swims, and long unhurried evenings watching the sun set behind the jungle canopy — these are the simple pleasures that define life here.

Natural Neighbors

Wildlife & Nature

Puerto Viejo sits within one of the most biodiverse corridors on the planet — the Talamanca Caribbean Biological Corridor, recognized by UNESCO. The wildlife here is not confined to reserves; it is woven into everyday life. Sloths hang from the trees outside your window. Toucans perch on garden branches. Howler monkeys greet the dawn.

A short distance away, the Jaguar Rescue Center is one of the Caribbean coast's most meaningful institutions — rescuing injured and orphaned animals with the goal of returning them to the wild. A visit is a genuinely moving experience. Birdwatchers will find the region extraordinary, with over 600 species recorded in the Talamanca region.

Sea & Islands

Warm Caribbean Seas & Bocas del Toro

The Caribbean Sea along Puerto Viejo's coast is calm, warm, and extraordinarily clear — ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and sea kayaking. The coral reefs just offshore teem with parrotfish, sea turtles, rays, and tropical life of every color.

Just across the border into Panama lies Bocas del Toro — a spectacular Caribbean archipelago that is one of the region's best-kept secrets. Pristine beaches, stilted villages over turquoise water, world-class snorkeling, and a colorful culture that feels wonderfully timeless. Our concierge team can arrange day or overnight excursions easily.
